Network setup for 802.11n WIfi adapter

Purchased the Wifi USb adapter.

What's the network key?

How is this setup to be connected to my laptop?

Normally the WiFi is intended to connect to a router, this normally provides the key.

If you want the laptop to connect directly to the Raspberry Pi it would be easiest to turn the Raspberry Pi into a wireless hotspot.
